Ziz is a colossal bird from Jewish mythology, said to be so enormous that its wings could block out the sun and its feet touched the earth while its head reached the heavens. Ruler of the skies alongside other primordial beasts of land and sea, Ziz represented the vast and uncontrollable power of creation itself. Some legends claimed the creature protected smaller birds beneath its wings, while others described storms and darkness following in its shadow as it crossed the world high above the clouds.
