Venomous rooster-serpent whose gaze can petrify flesh and soul alike
The Cockatrice is a deadly beast of medieval legend said to be born from a rooster’s egg hatched beneath unnatural circumstances. With the body of a serpent or dragon and the head of a rooster, the creature carried a gaze so terrible it could kill or petrify with a single glance. Its breath was believed to poison the land around it, withering crops and corrupting water. Across Europe, the Cockatrice became a symbol of unnatural evil, feared as a creature born from curses, omens, and forbidden magic.
