Vampiric firefly spirits that drain life as a single, merciless collective
The Adze comes from the folklore of the Ewe people of West Africa, where it was feared as a vampiric spirit capable of taking the form of a firefly. Slipping through cracks and keyholes under cover of darkness, the Adze was believed to feed upon sleeping victims, draining vitality and spreading sickness. When captured or cornered, the creature could return to its humanoid form, revealing a malevolent being tied to curses, witchcraft, and misfortune. Villages once blamed the Adze for mysterious illnesses, nightmares, and unexplained deaths that spread through the night like a living plague.
